Abstract

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of exercise program for 6 weeks on back pain, back strength, and body flexibility among operating room nurses.

Method:The subjects in this study were 54 nurses working in the operating room of Y university hospital in Seoul, Korea. Visual analogue scale was used to measure the subjective pain severity. And back muscle strength and body flexibility were measured with a back strength dynamometer and a forward flex meter respectively.

Result:There were statistically significant decrease in low back pain(t=6.39, p=.000), and increase in back muscle strength(t=-7.29, p=.000) and flexibility(t=-5.28, p=.000) after 6 weeks.

Conclusion:The results suggested that exercise program was effective for the prevention of low back pain, therefore it is necessary to support operating room nurses to exercise continuously.
